  By the year 2,000 the Center was serving over 11,000 people each year.
In 2,000, the Center completed construction and opened a new 12-bed adult inpatient Detoxification Unit and added a 6-bed children’s crisis stabilization unit. These programs were built as an expansion to the Emergency Services building on the David Lawrence Center main campus.
In 2001, Bridges, the children’s residential program became a certified statewide
inpatient psychiatric treatment program that now served the entire district.
The program became completely state funded and referrals for the program had
to come directly from the Department of Children and Families.
Due to an overwhelming need for additional space in 2002, the Children’s Community Services and Adult Community Services departments were moved off campus to rented space on Airport Pulling Road South.
Throughout this decade, the Center launched additional programs and services to divert individuals with a mental illness or substance abuse addiction from the criminal justice system including the Collier County Mental Health Court, Competency Restoration Program, crisis intervention training for Collier County Sheriff’s officers and the Juvenile Drug Court.
In 2008, because of the State’s strict admissions restrictions for the Bridges program, their inability to keep the beds at capacity, the need for critical, cost prohibitive renovations to the unit and the fact that the fewer and fewer Collier County children were being served in the program, the Center had to make the difficult decision to close the Bridges program in order to expand Children’s Outpatient Services.
